We’re delighted to announce that Bedrock will be taking a leading role in supporting the Midlands Family Business Awards’ dinner next month, as we’ve joined their 2015 roll-call of sponsors.

We are sponsoring the prestigious black tie dinner’s drinks reception which will kick-off the climax to this year’s Awards at Athena in Leicester on the 12th November.

Some 300 guests will be at the dinner, including all of the finalists in the 2015 Awards’ ten categories, and the Awards’ sponsors, supporters and independent judges.

Other sponsors of the Awards this year are Barclays, Family Business Futures, PCMS Group, PwC, RSA, Royal London, and Yu Energy.

Bedrock is already established as one of the UK’s leading tax advisory companies to accountants, and works with a national client base of businesses in a range of industry and market sectors, as its managing director, Phill Dann, explains:

“Bedrock specialises in working with business owners to help them navigate the complexities of tax regulations to ensure they can focus on the success of their business. We don’t offer accountancy audit or tax return compliance services, our speciality is tax advice pure and simple. Our team will work alongside a business’ existing accountant to ensure the best possible advice to ensure a long-term future and that aspirations are achieved.

“The Midlands Family Business Awards are a unique, independent, not-for-profit initiative in the region,” he adds, “that recognise the work and achievements of family owned businesses and their leaders. By sponsoring the Award’s drinks reception, we have the opportunity to lend our support, connect with new and established business contacts, and join Wilsons in celebrating the region’s family firms.”

Charlotte Perkins, MD of The Wilson Organisation, the third generation family business that created and organises the Awards, says:

“We are indebted to each and every one of the Awards’ sponsors, and are thrilled that Nottingham’s newest advisory business is also supporting them.”

This year’s finalists include 18 family businesses from the West Midlands and 26 from the East Midlands.

“All entries this year demonstrate the exceptional pedigree of the Midlands’ family businesses, and the shortlist includes businesses with five to over 500 employees, and annual turnover ranging from £0.5m to more than £50m,” says Charlotte.

The independent judging panel met all finalists over the last few weeks. The 2015 judges include Stuart Garner of Norton Motorcycles, Parveen Kumar Mehta of Minor Weir & Willis, David Robinson, the President of Speedo International, Benjamin Fletcher, MD of Boots Opticians, Mark Samworth of Samworth Brothers, Rob Fitzsimons, CEO of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, John Horrell of Dodson & Horrell, David Evans of Manor Pharmacy, Tim Storer of Pukka Pies, Jason Wouhra of East End Foods, Rebecca Manfredi of Suncream Dairies, and Peter Westerman of Westerman International.

The Awards are now in their sixth year and the Midlands’ only independent, not-for-profit initiative to recognise the work and achievements of family businesses. About The Wilson Organisation:

Established in 1914, The Wilson Organisation is a third generation family business, providing insurance and financial advice to businesses and individuals across the Midlands and UK. Based in Nottingham, the business is run by sisters Charlotte Perkins and Annabel Prow, who are the driving force behind the Midlands Family Business Awards. Charlotte and Annabel are supported at Wilsons by their father John Prow (chairman) and mother Olga. Visit www.wilorg.com for more information.

Wilsons launched the Midlands Family Business Awards as a charitable initiative in 2010 to highlight the successes of the region’s family businesses. Through the Awards Wilsons aims to create an ethical, supportive and friendly community for the Midlands’ family businesses and the Awards’ sponsors and supporters provide the financial support to help make the awards happen.

Wilsons remains strongly committed to the family business sector and to helping its leaders succeed in what can often be quite lonely roles. The firm runs regular Family Business Forums to provide a ‘safe haven’ for family businesses to debate best practice and network with other similar organisations.
