The deadline of 30 June 2021 for applications for government grants to help small and medium-sized businesses new to importing or exporting is rapidly approaching.

The SME Brexit Support Fund, which is administered by PWC, provides businesses with up to £2,000 to help with training or professional advice. The business has to have up to 500 employees and no more than £100 million annual turnover.

The grants are available to business moving goods between the UK and countries in the EU as they need to follow new customs and tax rules.

Typically this affects businesses who:

  • buy goods from an EU seller and bring them into the UK
  • send goods they’ve sold to a buyer in an EU country
  • haven’t exchanged money but need to move equipment they use for their business, between the UK and the EU.

Post Brexit there have been a lot of changes and these grants are to pay for practical support, including training or professional advice to adjust to new customs, rules of origin and VAT rules when trading with the EU. Applications must be received before 3‌‌0 Ju‌‌ne.

Bedrock has advised a number of businesses on the VAT implications for their trade to and from the EU post Brexit. Get in touch today if you need our assistance. You can find out more about how to apply on the .Gov website.
