HMRC have updated their online guidance “Your guide to making a voluntary disclosure” for individuals and companies who need to make a voluntary disclosure but who aren't eligible for HMRC Campaigns.

On a regular basis HMRC runs campaigns focused on particular sectors to remind people to pay their taxes, often highlighting the likely penalties if they don’t.

Even if you don’t qualify under a current HMRC campaign, you can still tell HMRC that you’ve not declared the right amount of one or more of the following:

  • Income Tax
  • Capital Gains Tax
  • National Insurance contributions
  • Corporation Tax

Our advice would always be to speak to your accountant or a specialist tax adviser, such as Bedrock, before going ahead. That way we can ensure that you avoid any associated difficulties with future tax returns. Take a look to see how we can support you here.

HMRC’s digital disclosure service is an online facility through which individuals, partners, trustees, company officers and agents can make a voluntary disclosure of undeclared income or gains chargeable to income tax, capital gains tax, National Insurance contributions or corporation tax. The guidance has been updated to reflect the resolution of issues with agent access to the digital disclosure service via Government Gateway. More information can be found on the .Gov.uk website.
